FG Committed to Basic Education for All Children

The Minister of State for Education, Dr Suwaiba Ahmad says taking over ten million out-of-school children back to the classroom is a major task before President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

The Minister stated this at the ongoing Basic Education in Nigeria Boot Camp Summit 2024 in Lagos.

Addressing education stakeholders at the summit, Dr Ahmad noted that the renewed hope agenda on education by the present administration included addressing the problem of out-of-school children.

Dr Ahmad, who called on states to work with the federal government in tackling the problem, solicited more support from the private sector in critical areas such as teacher training, provision of standard classrooms and instructional materials.

The Minister said education of special needs children was covered under the National Policy on Inclusive Education.

In his paper, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr Hamid Bobboyi represented by Professor Bala Zakari called on states to assess their UBE counterpart funds to improve basic education.

Participants in the summit stressed the need for uniform data on education in the country, while ensuring that all children have access to quality education.
