Lagos Government Orders Investigation into Alleged Demolition of Peter Obi’s Brother’s Property
The Lagos State Government has denied involvement in the alleged demolition of a property reportedly owned by the brother of former presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, while ordering a full-scale investigation into the matter.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the government expressed concern over what it described as “unverified and misleading claims” made by Mr. Obi, asserting that no agency of the state was responsible for the demolition.
According to the statement, the Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, who oversees the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), confirmed that the agency was neither involved in nor aware of any demolition at the said property.
“We find it disturbing that Mr. Peter Obi would make such allegations without first verifying the facts,” the statement read. “The Lagos State Government did not authorize, sanction, or execute the demolition of any such property.”
In response to the controversy, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban Development, Arc. Gbolahan Owodunni Oki, FNIA, has been directed to initiate a thorough investigation through LASBCA to establish the true circumstances surrounding the incident.
The government reiterated its commitment to the rule of law and assured that anyone found culpable in any unlawful act would be brought to justice.
While urging residents to disregard the “baseless allegations,” the government emphasized that Lagos remains open and safe for all Nigerians regardless of their origin or political affiliations.
“The Lagos State Government welcomes all citizens to live and do business in our state. We remain focused on delivering good governance, ensuring safety, and promoting unity,” the statement concluded.
