The swearing-in and oath-taking ceremony took place at the Sports Ground, Lagos House, Ikeja, where the Governor charged the new council leaders to prioritize service, fairness, and integrity in all aspects of their administration.
“This is not a celebration of titles, but a call to responsibility. Let the THEMES Plus agenda come alive in your communities. Lagosians expect visible and accountable leadership,” Sanwo-Olu declared.
He advised the Chairmen to be deliberate and discerning in appointing their cabinet members, emphasizing competence, character, and commitment to service delivery as key criteria.
Governor Sanwo-Olu reiterated his administration’s readiness to support the new council executives with training and capacity-building initiatives, noting that their performance would be critical to sustaining growth and development at the grassroots.
“We will support you to succeed, but you must earn the people’s trust through action, not words,” he added.
Also speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mr. Bolaji Kayode Robert, said the peaceful and successful elections were a reflection of the confidence residents have in the leadership of the elected chairmen.
“The people have spoken through the ballot. Your victory is not just political—it is a mandate to deepen democracy and bring real development to the grassroots,” Robert said.
Delivering a vote of thanks on behalf of the new Chairmen, Mr. Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, expressed gratitude to the Governor and Lagosians for the opportunity to serve. He pledged their collective commitment to good governance and to upholding the legacy of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“We are fully committed to driving inclusive development and ensuring every ward and community under our care feels the impact of governance,” Olowa assured.
Among those sworn in were Lanre Sanusi (Amuwo-Odofin), Samiat Bada (Ikosi-Isheri LCDA), and Usman Hamzat (Ifako-Ijaiye), along with several others.
